Pelham police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured on Tuesday.

Officers were called not long after 8 p.m. to the Grand Reserve Apartments in the 500 block of Grand Reserve Drive.

When they arrived they found two people had been shot.

Paul Tooson, 78, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police performed lifesaving measures on the second man, and placed a tourniquet on his leg. He was taken to UAB hospital with a leg injury and is expected to recover, according to police.

Investigators believe that the men were arguing when one of them pulled out a gun, shooting the other in the leg. Then the weapon went off a second time during a struggle for the gun.
