(WTVO) — INDYCAR driver Colton Herta has signed as a test driver for the new, American Cadillac F1 team, vacating a seat to be filled by former Team Penske driver Will Powers.
Cadillac will become the 11th team on the Formula 1 grid starting next year, using Ferrari power units until its bespoke, General Motors-produced engines are ready by 2029.
“My dream has always been to race in Formula 1, and I see this move as a huge step towards that goal. For now, my focus is on giving everything I can to Cadillac F1, helping build a competitive team,” Herta, 25, said Wednesday.
