MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - UnityPoint Health-Meriter has named a new chief medical officer, the organization announced Wednesday.

Dr. Karyn Baum has accepted the position, effective immediately.

UnityPoint said Baum brings extensive leadership experience to the role.

In the past, she has worked as chief transformation officer at Essentia Health, where she focused on leading efforts of enhancing healthcare delivery and outcomes across the organization. She has also held leadership positions with MHealth and the University of Minnesota Medical Center, where she served as vice president of the System Operations Center, associate CMO, interim CMO, executive medical director for Care Transitions and Patient Flow and associate chair for Clinical Quality.
