Things will look different for NFL viewers at home this season.

Sunday afternoons across America have started with seven magic words from NFL Network anchor Scott Hanson: "Seven hours of commercial-free football starts now." That's how the host of the popular "RedZone" program starts and brings football fans to the scoring action in every game across the league.

Those seven words will change for the 2025 NFL season. Hanson confirmed on "The Pat McAfee Show" today that RedZone will no longer be commercial-free.

"When you see me on the air, we're going to hit the Octobox, we've got eight games in the early window taking you around all the different cities," Hanson said. "Then, when we get into it, 'ladies and gentlemen it's been more than 250 days since the first full NFL Sunday but we are back and seven hours of RedZone football starts now."

Hanson explained that he is the host of the show and "the business folks handle the business and I have no say over elements that could or could not be in the show.

I realize that might be a slight change to some of you but that's what the catchphrase will be going forward."

This means the 2024 NFL season of RedZone was the final year of the commercial-free format.

Hanson stated that RedZone will not change much even with the ads.

"We've had meetings all offseason, we had our rehearsal, we had our dress rehearsal in Week 3 of the preseason and we are not going to sacrifice any great football for any of the business side of things," Hanson said. "We will not miss a touchdown, we will not say, 'oh okay this is 1st and goal from the [5-yard line] but let's, you know, sell some pizza or pick-up trucks.' You pick and choose your spots like anything."

There will be ads in the 17th season of RedZone this year, the final season of the program before ESPN takes over following a deal to acquire the channel from the NFL finalized last month.

ESPN will acquire NFL Network and certain other media assets owned and controlled by the NFL, including the NFL’s linear RedZone Channel and NFL Fantasy, in exchange for a 10% equity stake in ESPN.
