Where good news shines

Ben Smith is sticking with the Pios.

University of Denver soccer said Tuesday that Smith, a team captain for three seasons, has been named director of soccer operations.

"We’re thrilled to have Ben Smith join the coaching staff,” head coach Jamie Franks said.

Smith helped guide the Pioneers back to the College Cup in 2024. The Centennial product was a two-time Summit League first-team pick.

“I’ve known this staff for a long time and they’re the ones who inspired me to get into coaching,” Smith said. “I’m extremely grateful that they’ve given me this opportunity and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

Smith played in 74 matches in five seasons at Denver.
