North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek on Wednesday called out the State Board of Education for not acting on his recommendation for an outside review of the embattled Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ financial decision-making.
“In a blow to transparency, the State Board didn’t even include this item on its public agenda (for meetings Wednesday and Thursday),” Boliek posted on social media. “If the State Board does not take action, it will be failing the parents, students, and taxpayers who expect accountability from their government.”
In an Aug. 19 letter, the auditor called on the state board and Local Government Commission to initiate an independent review of the Forsyth school district’s internal control procedures.
