According to the Aug. 24 editorial “Layoffs at John Deere reveal how Trump’s trade war is bleeding jobs,” the president is responsible for a private company’s plans, which had not yet taken place, to lay off more than 200 workers.

The editorial also noted that in recent years, John Deere had laid off 10 times that many employees. Who was responsible for those layoffs? President Joe Biden?

Numerous news articles have predicted gloom and doom because of tariffs. But the tariff situation is fluid and unpredictable. Rather than assume the worst, it would be more intelligent to wait until there is or isn’t an actual impact on the economy, and then report on that. That would be news rather than speculation.
