The Las Vegas City Council unanimously voted today to appoint a replacement for former City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman rather than hold a special election.

Seaman resigned last week to take a post with the Trump administration as the U.S. Health and Human Services regional director in Denver.

The council has 30 days to pick a new member.

“These council seats are very important to our community,” Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen said at today’s council meeting. “Ward 2, in particular, represents over 127,000 people, and the work of a council member is critical — they deserve representation.”

City Clerk LuAnn Holmes presented the council two options: select from a pool of eligible applicants or hold a special election to choose the replacement.
