WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – Students in 4K at Hadfield Elementary School will have to wait another week before they can return back to school. In their classrooms, the young people normally holding paintbrushes for arts and crafts are currently being replaced by crews repainting walls.
Historic flooding in the area last month damaged two 4K rooms. Carrie Mareno and Amy Dorow lost cabinets, walls and classroom supplies.
“This is like our second home, our classroom is. It was hard,” Mareno said. “It’s basically like starting a new classroom from scratch.”
Principal Mike Elliott said after the flood, an environmental engineer determined everything inside the 4K classrooms from the floor up was a loss. The decision was made to delay the start of school by one week to help teachers res
