PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) is in the hot seat on Wednesday at the State Capitol as some lawmakers call for an investigation into the agency.
Three Arizona children died this year, and although the cases are unrelated, all three girls had previous contact with DCS.
“The deaths of Emily Pike , Zariah Dodd and Rebekah Baptiste should be a wake-up call for us all,” said State Sen. Carine Werner, in part. “These tragedies make it painfully clear that when our child protection systems–both state and tribal–fail, the consequences can be horrific. We cannot allow these failures to repeat."
Sen. Werner created a joint task force aimed at strengthening child abuse laws in Arizona.
The task force’s first meeting on Wednesday will include state lawmake
