College cheerleader arrested after her dead baby was found in her closet

A college athlete was recently arrested and accused of hiding her dead infant‘s body in a closet.

Laken Ashlee Snelling, a 21-year-old student-athlete at the University of Kentucky, was taken into police custody Sunday in Lexington after police discovered a deceased infant in her closet on Aug. 27, according to a statement from the city of Lexington .

“Infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” a Lexington police arrest citation read.

A cause of death is currently under investigation for the baby whose age is unknown.

Snelling, who a university spokesperson told NBC is a member of the competitive STUNT team (similar to competitive cheerleading), was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
