HAMDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Primary Election Day is Tuesday, Sept. 9 and voters across the state are already casting their ballots as early voting began Tuesday, Sept. 2.

In Hamden, nearly 20 people lined up before the polls opened this morning, eager to be among the first to cast their ballots.

Town poll moderator Edward Broderick said the turnout shows how much residents value their role in democracy.

“People need to be involved in the electoral process. It’s your town, it’s your state, it’s your country. You need to vote,” Broderick said.

Hamden’s early voting site has been especially busy, with five candidates running in the Democratic mayoral primary.

Voter Israel Ortiz said taking advantage of early voting was an easy decision.
