AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We’re continuing to track data from school zone speed cameras used across our area.

These cameras have now collected more than a million dollars from drivers — as Georgia lawmakers continue to fight for change with these programs, they say are policing for profit.

On Burke Veterans’ Parkway on Highway 25, drivers are crossing in and out of this school zone — right in front of Burke County High School, and speed cameras are closely watching.

Partnering with a private company, Altumint, the county has now made nearly $1.1 million in just over a year.

It’s raising questions about how these cameras are really operating.
