MADISON (WKOW) -- What's currently empty walls and tables at the site of the old Red Rooster will soon be a new sports bar called 'Bernell's.'
Though this won't be any old sports bar in Madison.
"This will be the first women's viewing sports bar,' said bar owner Rita Adair.
The name 'Bernell's' comes from Adair's wife, Bernell Hooker. She passed away last August. Adair and Hooker shared a dream of opening a bar that features women's sports.
"It's her legacy," said Adair.
Hooker was a pioneer in women's sports and a champion for athletes across the state.
"When I was thinking about her legacy, I thought I should make it happen," said Adair. "I should just continue this dream that she had and make this happen."
Adair found that no one else was making this happen — which is the problem
