Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Shelby Miller was aware of the risks when he made the decision to pitch after being diagnosed in early July with a right flexor strain while with the Arizona Diamondbacks .

And now, his season is finished after he was diagnosed with a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow that will likely result in him needing to undergo the second Tommy John surgery of his career.

"I think it just comes with the territory, you know?" Miller said Sept. 3, two days after being injured in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sept. 1. The Brewers selected the contract of right-hander Joel Payamps to take Miller's spot in the bullpen.
