LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. —

A former Kentucky sheriff charged with killing a judge does not want his trial moved out of the county.

Former Letcher County sheriff, Mickey Stines, is accused of killing Judge Kevin Mullins in his chambers in September 2024.

Prosecutors filed a motion this week requesting a change of venue, arguing it would be impossible to have a fair trial in Letcher County, as both Stines and Mullins were elected officials.

However, Stines' defense team filed a motion opposing the venue change.

In the defense's motion, they argue that regardless of where the trial is moved, it has made headlines internationally and has been widely publicized by media outlets and on social media.
