MADISON (WKOW) — Proceedings over the contested Enbridge Line 5 pipeline reroute have moved to Madison, with public testimony being heard at the Hill Farms State Office Building.
The debate centers on environmental risks versus economic benefits. William Bonin, a self-employed geologist, expressed concerns about the environmental impact.
"If the water table is disrupted that spring or seep could be degraded or intercepted entirely," Bonin said.
Amy Barrilleaux of Clean Wisconsin highlighted potential economic impacts.
"Thousands of jobs depend on those natural resources in northern Wisconsin—tourism jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity," Barrilleaux said.
Jennifer Smith, director of tribal engagement with Enbridge, emphasized job creation from the project.
