COLUMBUS, Ohio - A cat fight over the fur-ever fates of two colonies of feral felines around the campus of Hiram College is escalating between the village mayor and residents who care for them.

Mayor Anne Haynam is backing a resolution that would make feeding the feral cats an unclassified misdemeanor, punishable by a series of increasing fines – starting at $150 on the first offense and ratcheting up to $1,000 for the fourth in three years.

The cat caretakers accuse Haynam and others on Hiram Village Council of wanting to starve the cats to death. Claws out, they are fighting with a media campaign and spreading awareness on the Nextdoor app.
