Lansing — Republican House Speaker Matt Hall on Wednesday called for the ouster of the leader of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association after the group criticized the nearly $79 billion budget the lower chamber approved last week mostly along party lines.
The Richland Township Republican's repeated calls for CEO Brian Peters' firing during a more than hour-long Wednesday press conference came after the House budget plan included deep cuts in hospitals' Medicaid reimbursement. The cuts come on the heels of the passage of the federal One Big Beautiful Bill, which also will decrease hospital reimbursements for Medicaid, a federal-state health program targeted at low-income residents.
