Sunset residents disappointed that the neighborhood’s popular night market isn’t returning this year will be able to attend a new street festival being organized by local businesses and community organizations instead.

Sunset After Dark will be held Sept. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. on Irving Street between 20th and 23rd avenues. West-side residents and merchants began organizing the event earlier this summer following the cancellation of this year’s Sunset Night Market , an event that drew 20,000 visitors last year.

The new event is a smaller version that will feature food, music, and family-friendly games and activities. It also could serve as a pilot for similar events in the future.
