CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A section of South Tryon Street has been closed for several hours after a gas line was damaged in the area.

The closure began just after 3 p.m. on South Tryon near Griffith Street. Duke Energy officials say a third party unaffiliated with Piedmont Natural Gas damaged a line while digging underground. The road is closed in both directions between Griffith and Benjamin streets.

Duke says gas is off and repairs are underway. Repairs should be completed later this evening.
