Scammers are increasingly targeting seniors through smartphones, email, and online schemes, costing Californians more than $1.7 billion in fraud losses in 2024. To help older adults stay safe, AARP and Chase Bank hosted a free workshop in Sacramento on spotting common scams such as fake toll payment texts, “grandparent scams,” and fraudulent gift card requests. Experts urge seniors to avoid giving out personal information, keep devices secure, and act quickly by notifying law enforcement and banks if targeted.
