CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- American Airlines and the National World War II Museum are honoring veterans.
A group of WWII veterans was given a charter flight Wednesday from Charlotte Douglas to New Orleans for an opportunity to tour the museum. It included one veteran who turned 100 years old this year, and was on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, a day after the initial D-Day invasion.
He says the opportunity was an unforgettable one.
“To see all the crosses and cemetery, then to go to the site itself,” said Robert Crecco. “I’ve been three times. Every time I go there, I'm quite moved by what I see and what I can remember.”
Organizers say this was the final group flight since the number of veterans who are able to make the trip to New Orleans.
