Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) warms up before a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles meet for Thursday Night Football at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff in the NFL's season opener is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC / Peacock). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NFL odds around the Cowboys vs. Eagles odds and make our expert NFL picks and predictions for the best bets.

The Cowboys made giant headlines in recent days, shipping EDGE Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, rather than signing him to a giant extension which he sought. Instead, Dallas used that money to ink CB DaRon Bland to a big extension, while signing TE Jake Ferguson to a long-term deal earlier in the offseason.

Thursday marks the debut of WR George Pickens, too, as he comes over from the Pittsburgh Steelers. RB Javonte Williams, formerly of the Denver Broncos, heads up a backfield comprised of rookie RB Jaydon Blue and journeyman RB Miles Sanders.

The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles fine-tuned their roster, adding backup QB Sam Howell behind QB Jalen Hurts. RB A.J. Dillon also comes in, challenging RB Will Shipley for touches behind RB Saquon Barkley. The team went out and added WR John Metchie III from the Houston Texans near the end of training camp, as he battles WRs Darius Cooper and Jahan Dotson for targets behind starters A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Last season, the Eagles dominated the 2024 regular-season series, winning 34-6 in Dallas as a 7-point favorite as the Under (45) cashed on Nov. 10, while the Eagles blasted the Cowboys 41-7 at "The Linc" on Dec. 29, cashing as 7.5-point favorites as the Over (37.5) connected. The Eagles are 4-1-1 against the spread (ATS) in the past 6 meetings, with the Over going 7-2 in the previous 9 in the series.

Cowboys at Eagles picks and predictions

Prediction

Eagles 27, Cowboys 20

Moneyline

The Eagles (-450) will cost you 4 1/2 times your potential return, and that's way too expensive for a standalone bet. The risk is too great for such a small return, as you would win just $22.22 for every $100 risked. Even as part of a multi-leg parlay, including Philadelphia straight up sucks all of the value out of your ticket. Betting such heavy favorites, especially early on in the season, and in a rivalry game, is an extremely risky strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Back the COWBOYS +8.5 (-110), as they should be able to keep it within a single score in this Week 1 battle.

The Eagles are raising a banner at Lincoln Financial Field, and we've seen it many times in the past. The defending champ is often a bit distracted by all of the festivities, while the underdog, with nothing to lose, tries its hardest to spoil the day.

Dallas isn't likely to stun the crowd and win outright, but taking the huge amount of points is a good idea. The Cowboys should keep it within a single score.

Over/Under

UNDER 47.5 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

We should see some choppy offense during the early going, as these teams get acclimated to the new season. Dallas has a completely different running backs room, too, and you can expect a bit of an adjustment period.

In fact, playing UNDER 23.5 (-110) - 1ST HALF LINE is also a strong play, as these teams struggle early on before the offenses get a little more up to speed in the second half to make it close.
