CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The artificial turf fields are being replaced at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex after a unanimous vote by county commissioners Wednesday.

The county agreed to appropriate $750,000 in funds from the Synthetic Turf Capital Reserve for Phase II of the project. The facility in Matthews has a primary, 4,300-seat soccer stadium that has a grass field, but nine of its auxiliary fields use turf.

Other existing amenities include a videoboard, locker rooms, a conference room for meeting space, VIP space and team space. The complex is used regularly by, Crown Legacy FC, Carmel Christian soccer and Carolina Champions League.
