The defense team for former President Jair Bolsonaro stated during the second day of the Supreme Court trial that “there is no evidence” of his participation in the coup plot. According to lawyer Celso Vilardi, Bolsonaro was ‘dragged’ into the facts investigated by the Federal Police. “The former president did not attempt to undermine the democratic rule of law,” he stated.

“[This is] a case based on a plea bargain and a draft found on the cell phone of a person who is now cooperating with the authorities. Such is the foundation, the cornerstone of the case – the draft and the cooperation. From then on, what happened with the Federal Police investigation and later with the indictment from the prosecutors is in fact an unbelievable succession of events,” he argued.
