PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - The search for teachers continues in Petersburg.
“We have 86% of our classrooms filled with a combination of fully licensed, provisionally licensed, and resident teachers,” Dr. Shamica Long-Lane, the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the division, said.
Wednesday night, she presented to the school board 60 school vacancies within the division.
32 of those are for core and elective classes in elementary, middle, and high school. The number of vacancies surpasses last year’s numbers, but Long-Lane noted the division is making progress with filling the classrooms.
On Aug. 6, a division spokesperson told 12 On Your Side that 78% of Petersburg classrooms were filled.
