In Whitfield County, Georgia, the sheriff's office is vocalizing the need and impact of having school resource officers on every campus. It's an issue Sheriff Darren Pierce of the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office took seriously on his first day in the elected position.

"It gives parents a sense of safety. The feeling of safety, knowing they could drop their child off at school and that their child is going to be protected in the event that evil or tragedy does hit," said Sheriff Darren Pierce with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office.

Pierce told Local 3 News he is a father of school aged children and understands the need for keeping school spaces safe. In the county, there are 22 different school campuses. For the first time this school year, every campus is monitored by a sworn deput
