CLOVIS, N.M. —

Giovanni Brown-Johnson, 19, was sentenced Sept. 3 for the murder of a 16-year-old in eastern New Mexico .

Police were called to the Clovis Apartments on Aug. 27, 2024. Officers found Demetrius Anderson, 16, with two gun shot wounds. One to the left arm and the other to the abdomen. Anderson died at the Plains Regional Medical Center shortly after arriving.

Brown-Johnson pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. He was 18 at the time of the murder.

District Court Judge David Reeb handed down an 11-year sentence in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. He will be eligible for parole after serving 10 years.
