SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -Sioux City jumped out to a three-run lead four batters into Wednesday’s game and never looked back, topping the Canaries 5-0 in game one of the best-of-three West Division Series.

The Explorers added two insurance runs in the ninth inning while the Sioux City pitching staff fanned 15 and limited the Birds to four hits. Kyle Marman had 10 of the K’s for the X’s.

Canaries manager Mike Meyer says, “Kyle Marman is one of the best pitchers in the league. You don’t strike out 150 guys in a season without having really good stuff. He did a really good job of getting ahead, throwing a strike early in the at bats. And then, we just chased pitches and we just didn’t do a very good job of laying off some of those and getting into better hitter’s counts.”
