The Jasper City Council met on Wednesday evening and adopted the tax rate and budget, and also approved a measure, which will result in residents not getting an increase on their electric rates but paying more for garbage.
Under the plan, as adopted, the tax rate, which is currently $0.2226, will go up to $0.2850 or roughly 6 cents per $100 in evaluation of property.
As far as utilities are concerned, garbage pick up for both residential and commercial will be increased by $2.00.
The council apparently took the measures to avoid a possible overall loss or windfall of $400,000.
The council's plan as adopted, will raise the amount of spending from $28,917,078 last year to the total of $30,178,103 in the upcoming fiscal year.
