From natural disasters to bad rainstorms, North Jersey has a long history of major flooding. And as these events have become more frequent over the last several years, a new report shows that the risk of flooding in our region is actually greater than officials say.

Overall, more than one in four U.S. homes, about 26%, are exposed to at least one type of severe or extreme climate risk in 2025, according to Realtor.com's 2025 Housing and Climate Risk Report . This represents $12.7 trillion in real estate value nationwide that is susceptible to damage from flooding, wind and wildfire.
