A senior Government minister has declined to say whether Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner should resign if she's found to have breached ministerial standards over taxes. The MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, who's been backed by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and is also the Housing Secretary, admitted on Wednesday she did not pay enough stamp duty on her second home.

As reported, Ms Rayner has referred herself to the independent advisor on ministerial standards and HM Revenue and Customs over the matter. She said she received inaccurate tax advice and had spoken to her family about quitting over the issue, which relates to the purchase of a flat in Hove.

The Conservatives have called for the taxman to go further and investigate whether Ms Rayner has evaded tax, which would be illegal. To
