New Haven, CT – A routine grocery run turned into a life-changing surprise for a New Haven man who walked out of the ShopRite of East Haven holding a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket, state lottery officials confirmed.

Jose R., whose full name has not been released, purchased the lucky ticket at the ShopRite location in East Haven, just hours before the numbers were drawn. The ticket matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball in Monday night’s drawing, securing him one of the game’s secondary prizes.
