A single RSV vaccine shot protects adults ages 60 or older from hospitalization and critical illness through two cold-and-flu seasons, according to a new multi-state study led by a Vanderbilt University Medical Center researcher.

RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, infects the nose, throat and lungs and can be more severe than the common cold. It causes up to 150,000 hospitalizations and 8,000 deaths a year among U.S. adults 60 or older, according to the report.
