ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Wasena Bridge Replacement Project continues to make progress with a new completion timeline in place.

The city of Roanoke began this project in May 2024, reconstructing the 1938 bridge to add bike lanes, wider sidewalks, LED lighting, and a roundabout at each end.

The original timeline for completion was Spring 2026; however, due to some unexpected constraints and weather delays, the finished project has been pushed back to mid-summer.

Project Manager Josephus Johnson-Koroma told WDBJ7 that the bridge is 65% complete, with 3 out of 5 piers in place. Construction on the other 2 piers, the deep foundation, and utility work on both ends of the bridge are underway. So what’s next?
