Indiana’s third scheduled execution in less than a year is scheduled for October 10th.
Roy Lee Ward is set to be executed before sunrise.
Ward raped and murdered 15-year-old Stacey Payne in 2001.
His lawyers are still fighting the execution, pointing to the last one, where they say the inmate suffered before he died.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun says the lethal injection drug used in executions is difficult to get, and the state won’t buy any more of it until closer to Ward’s execution date, so it doesn’t expire.
