The Ridgefield Spudders are going to look a little different on offense this fall.

Rather than the usual spread set, the Spudders are going to tighten things up with what coach Scott Rice calls “a little more wing type setup.”

That doesn’t mean the Spudders will abandon the pass, not with a returning all-league quarterback. Rice just wants to run the ball better.

“We did a kind of self-study at the end of the year and in the offseason,” Rice said. “You know, we run the ball 75 percent of the time, but we had some ineffective ways that we were doing that. So we wanted to find some ways more effective to do it.”

For the new approach to work, Rice will lean heavily on an offensive line that brings back a lot of experience.
