The town of Hurley is weighing its options for financing a new highway garage with an estimated $9 million price tag.
“In this case, I believe the concept plans were 14,600 square feet, based on the equipment that the town of Hurley has and the needs that the town of Hurley has,” said project engineer John Brust of Delaware Engineering at the Aug. 26 town board meeting.
“When you assign $550 a square foot to 14,600 feet, you’re right about $8 million. Then you throw some other soft cap costs at it—maybe some legal costs, and so on and so forth—and we’re envisioning a $9 million project.”
Brust said the town has about $1.28 million set aside for the project and anticipates it will be eligible for $500,000 from the Local Community Assistance Program.
“Because any grants we get reduce the
