(KIMT) -- With the passage of a cold front late Thursday, strong northwest winds are set to return Thursday night with gusts reaching up to 40 MPH. Winds will remain gusty, potentially reaching up to 40 MPH throughout the day Friday.

These winds will usher in a record cold day Friday as high temperatures will struggle to climb out of the upper 50s. Rochester's forecast high of 57° Friday will break the current long-standing lowest-ever high temperature record of 59° set back in 1956.

Mason City could also tie/break their current lowest-ever high temperature on September 5.
