United flight 2664 returned to San Francisco International Airport due to a “plastic burning smell” detected in the cabin

After the plane landed safely, United arranged for a different aircraft to take the passengers to their destination of Baltimore/Washington International Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident

A United flight departing from San Francisco International Airport had to turn around to address a burning smell inside the cabin.

The plane, a Boeing 737 MAX-9, was en route to Baltimore/Washington International Airport when the incident occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 2. There were 164 passengers and eight crew members on board.
