The Kitchener Rangers are one of two teams left in the bidding to host the 2027 Memorial Cup.
The Canadian Hockey League released its shortlist of potential hosts on Thursday morning and the Blueshirts and the Guelph Storm are the sole clubs remaining from the initial four that submitted proposals.
The Kingston Frontenacs and Niagara IceDogs have been eliminated from the race.
“The Memorial Cup is the toughest trophy to win in amateur sport, and few markets reflect the history and passion for junior hockey more than Guelph and Kitchener,” said Canadian Hockey League president Dan MacKenzie, in a news release.
“Both communities are defined by devoted fan bases and a deep-rooted tradition in our game, and each has played an important role in shaping junior hockey’s history.”
