Syracuse, N.Y. ― Family and friends of a woman who was killed in a hit-and-run called for changes in a law they say protects people who flee after crashes.
The woman’s killer was sentenced to 1 2/3 to 5 years in prison Wednesday.
John Adamy, 49, previously pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal crash after hitting Jill Barth , 60, near Shifty’s Bar and Grill on Burnet Avenue in Syracuse just after midnight Nov. 24, 2024.
“You are getting off easily,” Brittany Damiano, Barth’s daughter, told Adamy “The law needs to change for people like you.”
Prosecutor Frank Pelosi said that he could not charge Adamy with the homicide because there was no evidence of intoxication because he fled the scene.
