A Sand Springs man was ordered to serve a 30-year federal prison term Wednesday after he earlier admitted to fatally shooting a woman in 2024.
Anthony Clay Russell, 32, admitted to the fatal shooting of Tasha Shepard, whose body was found Oct. 22 near a bus stop.
When detectives interviewed Russell, he initially lied about being with Shepard, according to court documents.
When confronted with evidence, Russell eventually admitted that he picked up Shepard to have sex for money, court documents show.
Russell admitted he did not have money to pay Shepard, so she got out of his vehicle and walked away. Eventually, Russell admitted to shooting at Shepard, claiming he was only trying to scare her.
