A section of Route 22 in Northampton County will close overnight next month as crews remove an aging bridge as part of a major replacement project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced the highway will close in both directions between Routes 33 and 191 from 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. The closure will facilitate the safe removal of the existing Farmersville Road bridge in Bethlehem Township.

During the nine-hour closure, traffic will be detoured using Route 191, Newburg Road, Country Club Road, Hecktown Road and Route 33. PennDOT advises motorists to expect delays and use caution while following the detour route.
