SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged on suspicion of drunk driving after police say he crashed into a South Bend police car late Wednesday night.

The crash happened just after 11:45 p.m. on Olive Street.

According to police, Officer DeVonte Spratt turned north onto Olive Street after completing a traffic stop near Tucker Drive when a southbound vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Jesus Briano, slid across the center line and hit Officer Spratt’s patrol vehicle head-on.

Police say Officer Spratt was evaluated for a hand injury while Briano declined medical treatment for his minor injuries.

While speaking with Briano, police say officers smelled alcohol and noticed Briano was unstable on his feet and slurring his words.
