MUSKEGON, Mich. — About 30 million people in the United States deal with sleep apnea. Of those, only about 6 million are even diagnosed.

Disruptive sleep can affect mental clarity, put a strain on your heart and brain and even contribute to obesity.

Most people diagnosed with sleep apnea treat it with a device called continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). That option, however, does not work for everyone.

Ron Gallas was one of those people. He was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in 2019.

“I just couldn't wear it,” said Gallas. “I mean, even if I'm sitting up, I just couldn't have that on. I tried it and I just didn't like it.”

Gallas was not sleeping with the CPAP machine, defeating the purpose.

Instead, he searched for other options and found the Inspire implant treatment.
