KINGSTON, N.Y. — Incumbent Democrat Peter Criswell of Kingston will again have a free ride in his bid for election to the county Legislature’s District 7 seat.

Criswell, 61, is running for a fourth term in office. He was first elected in 2019 when he unseated Republican Brian Woltman. Criswell defeated Woltman again in 2021 and ran unopposed in 2023.

He will hold the Democratic and Working Families Party lines on the ballot.

County legislators serve two-year terms. However, due to a change in state law that requires most local elections to take place in even years, this year, legislators would run for only a one-year term. However, a decision by the Court of Appeals on a challenge to that law is pending.

As in the past, Criswell said he will prioritize creating more affordable housing
