LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Among the slew of laws taking effect in Nebraska Sept. 3 was LB 78 , which created the Domestic Violence and Sex Trafficking Survivor Assistance Act.

The bill was introduced by Lincoln Senator Eliot Bostar this past legislative session, and passed in the unicameral 49-0.

LB 78 increases the documentary stamp tax by seven cents for every thousand dollars of property. That tax is charged when real estate is transferred.

The slight increase — from $2.25 per $1,000 to $2.32 per $1,000 — will help fund housing support for survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking.
