INDIANAPOLIS — A former Indianapolis Public Schools student was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to attacking a teacher .

A judge sentenced Aziz Mahamadou to 690 days in jail. He will spend 345 more days in jail after already serving 345 days during the case.

13News talked with Mahamadou's father, who said his son has been diagnosed with catatonia mental disorder.

In April, Mahamadou was declared incompetent to stand trial. After treatment, he was declared competent to stand trial in June. On Sept. 3, the prosecution and defense reached a plea deal, with Mahamadou pleaded guilty to battery resulting in moderate bodily injury.

Mahamadou is currently serving a 100-day sentence in the Johnson County jail for entering unlocked apartments in Greenwood in April 2024.
